Waiting for the tide

Oil on canvas

I stumbled across this scene, at the end of an estuary, one afternoon in late Summer. I loved the shimmering light on the mud and remains of the water, the reflections where such a beautiful warm ochre. As the painting is contre-jour this created lovely subtle highlights in the trees and river bank. There was an ancient mill behind me and an old orchard just out of view, it really did look like the little boat was waiting for the tide, such a beautiful spot.

This painting measures 22 x 16cm.
